Why Book your Bootfitting with Alan McVie?
Book your Bootfitting with Alan McVie now. Skiing and Snowboarding can be the best fun. Slide around the mountain, challenging yourself, but it can also be a painful experience if your feet are hurting from badly fitting boots.
The feet are one of the most proprioceptive parts of the body, the ability to sense oneself. Allowing for good balance and sense of the ski or the snowboards actions and control.
With over 30 years’ experience and numerous Masterfit University specialist bootfitting courses. Alan McVie has the knowledge to diagnose potential feet issues that can affect your comfort and performance. Whether it is supination, pronation, flexibility, dorsiflexion, foot or stance alignment, volume issues or just lumps and bumps.
Sometimes all that is needed is either a generic insole or a Custom Masterfit foot bed to correct and stabilise the foot and stance, less fatigue and greater strength transfer in the turn, possibly reducing adverse effects to the knees, back and hips, better circulation hence warmer feet.
Correct sizing for width and volume is also very important as is matching the particular foot to the various shapes of different boots and deciding whether comfort or performance is the preferred type of fit.
Having the boots tight and even throughout the foot is always the goal. Book yourBootfitting with Alan McVie to get the best from your snow experience.
Enjoy the snow with safety and confort
Boots come in a variety of styles differentiating length, width across the fore foot, volume and levels of stiffness for increased response and performance.
All midrange boots and above, have mouldable liners to allow better shaping and hold, particularly around the ankle.
Most of these boots can also be modified internally and externally to suit overt shapes such as bunions, protruding ankles and extreme width.
Customer preconceptions to size, brand/model and colour can be disadvantageous. The boot fitters goal is to achieve a fit that is comfortable but tight with the customers input very important.
Ski boots should be worn like ice skates, the exact size of your foot, they will feel short at first, almost claustrophobic on the toes. Within 5-10 minutes with flexing the boot, the foot will fit into the heel pocket, resulting in more toe room.
Buying boots too big especially Snowboard boots is a common problem. It is important to allow more time for the bootfitting process. The Boot fitter will guide you in the selection of the right boot for your skill level, size and foot issue. Remember that, the boot is as tight in the shop as it will ever be, once on the snow after a few runs they will give a little.
Boot sizing can vary greatly between brands and models, internal volumes of liner and shell and length differences.
Alan McVie finds the right boot for your foot. However it takes a little to go through the correct process. Make an appointment with Alan on 02-49265177
Ski and Snowboard tuning, waxing and mounting
Proski provides a range of services for snow sports equipment including Ski and Snowboard tuning, waxing, binding mounting and repairs. Our team is professional and reliable, we use only Wintersteiger equipment for ski and snowboard tuning. While your new skis or board are tuned and waxed straight out of the factory, the condition of your equipment requires constant maintenance to ensure maximum on-snow performance and glide. Our trained professionals have years of experience in ski and snowboard tuning. We use world-cup level Wintersteiger machinery and high quality Kuu or Toko Waxes. Our team at Proski can have your equipment performing its absolute best for your next on-snow adventure, be it riding the fresh stuff, tearing apart a groomer or lapping the park.
Maximum Glide and Strong Edge Hold
The more you ski or ride the quicker your equipment suffers and will need some work to get back into peak performance. When referring to performance the main factoring elements are:
- Maximum glide
- Strong edge hold
Obtaining maximum glide is achieved by ensuring your skis or board are clean, flat, structured and properly waxed. Strong edge hold and control requires your equipment to have clean, sharp, and rust-free edges with the correct angle on the side and base edges.
Our trained professionals have years of experience in ski and snowboard tuning and, with the help of our state of the art Wintersteiger tuning facility, our team can have your equipment performing at its best for your next on-snow adventure. How do I know what type of service I need? If you are uncertain of what service your equipment is in need of ask our experienced team. Usually the service needed will depend on the current condition of your equipment or any damage that it has sustained recently. PROSKI offers a vast range of different equipment services including:
- Clean and hot wax
- Clean and storage wax
- Edge, clean and wax
- Base-grind, Microfinish, edge, clean and wax
- Base-fill, base grind, Microfinish, edge, clean and wax
- De-lamination top-sheet repairs
- Edge repairs
- Core-shot repairs
- Binding Mounting and repairs
Step 1 – Cleaning
Cleaning the base is essential to remove any dirt, grease, and wax build-up that has accumulated on the base or in the scratches, and dings. We use a special base cleaning agent and a brush on the base for this process.
Step 2 – P-tex filling
P-tex is used to fill scratches and holes, a combination of heat and pressure with a Wintersteiger P-Tex gun is used to affect a good molecular bond.
Step 3 – Base grinding
The edges of your ski or snowboard will become blunt over time or from prolonged use, and it is essential to get rid of any nicks, burrs, rust or damage to ensure the maximum performance when on-snow. Dull edges will not grip the snow and have a tendency to throw off your technique. Therefore it is very important to have your equipment ceramic-disc tuned to ensure the edges are sharp, with a perfectly true edge from tip to tail and rust-free for grip and edge hold for maximum performance.
The Wintersteiger ceramic disc edger will create the perfect angles on both side and base edges of your ski or board, which act like a bread knife and allow your skis/board to slice through ice and snow. The edge angles can be changed to suit all types of riding, from freeskiing to groomers, park, pipe and rails to racing. A base bevel is critical for easy turn initiation and transitions.
Step 4 – Base Structure with diamond dressed stone – Microfinish
During a full service, grinding the base is a very important step in getting your ski/board to perform at its best. Ski and snowboard bases should be flat. Poor performance is a result of a high base (convex) and edge high bases (concave or railed). It is essential to get the base and the edge level and on the same plane. We achieve this through grinding with belt-finish base grind followed by a Microfinish base structure.
Step 5 – Ceramic Disc edge tuning – side edge and base bevel
A structure on the base is essential to reduce drag and friction, to break the surface tension and give an effective release as a ski or board without structure will “suck” to the snow, much like two pieces of glass with water between them. Our World Cup quality Wintersteiger SBI machine can alter the ski or board structure to suit any snow condition. Large open structure for wet snow, fine structure for cold snow and powder.
Step 6 – Infra red Hot Waxing
Our trained professionals have years of experience in ski and snowboard tuning. Our team uses world-cup level machinery such as the new infrared Wintersteiger WAX FUTURE. Waxing cannot be underestimated. It is probably the most important step in getting your skis or board to perform at their best. Basically a waxed set of skis or board glides better and more consistently. Your equipment will ride faster and turn easier. It needs to be done regularly (after every 3-4 day, when icy – more often).
Step 7 – Scraping, polishing
After the wax has been applied and impregnated into the base of your ski or snowboard we will let it set and cool, then proceed to scrape off all excess wax. (except for storage waxing)
Once completed, the base needs to brushing off the remaining wax allowing the structure to work properly. This will achieve the best glide characteristics.
